Post Chemo Extensions

When I found out I had breast cancer and needed chemotherapy, a mastectomy and radiation - besides of course being worried if I would be ok, my second biggest worry was loosing my hair. I have 2 young kids and I didn’t want them to see me like that. Hell, I didn’t want to see me like that! I decided to do the Paxman cold cap and see how much hair I could hold on to. It was rough, freezing my head for 4+ hours for all 14 of my treatments. And after each one more and more hair would fall out which would bring fresh waves of grief and devastation.

Loosing my hair truly was one of the hardest things I’ve ever gone through. Some days I couldn’t bring myself to look in the mirror. When you look in the mirror and don’t see your self it’s just devastating. There is no other word for it.

Even though I ended up loosing most of my hair, I never went completely bald thanks to the cold cap. And a month before I finished chemo my head was covered with regrowth:

The left is the worse my hair loss got which was beginning of July and the right is end of July. I finished chemo end of August.

I found Road to regrowth from a fellow breast cancer survivor. Leah is the stylist and she started her own salon catering specifically to breast cancer patients to give them gentle hair extensions to help them feel more like themselves and your hair will grow with the extensions in.

Because I did the cold capping I had enough hair to do extensions 2 months post chemo:

After 5 months I got them out and got a fresh set of extensions and my hair had grown so much.
